Beelzebabe

This work consists of a headpiece, collar and ring. The set is called Beelzebabe. I started it several months ago, but I wore the prototypes out dancing a few times and, expectedly, everything needed to be repaired or rebuilt.

Must remember… photos first. Dancing second. Photos first. Dancing second.

I love this! The skull collar reminds me of an Elizabethan ruff, but when mixed with the more Victorian Veil and portraiture it all comes together as a great take on the idea of a memento mori.

Spot on. This costume is totally inspired by momento mori. The collar is made from a tangle of ceiling beads, used in an installation called Ars Moriendi. There is a beautiful photo of a Sicilian actress by William Albert Allard (National Geographic). I’ve been obsessed with her sad, veiled face for so long. I wanted to embody some manifestation of her. Thank you!
